How should I present myself when applying for a part time position at a retirement home?
Asked by Iris
Is it any different from a retail approach - is it more formal or not? What should I say - where should I go (the front desk?)? If you were in my shoes and you wanted to apply at a retirement home part time - what steps would you take? Please help, all advice will be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you are just planning on walking in to apply for a job? That's ok if you do that - I've done it before. Have your resume with you, dress very nicely as if you were going for an interview - dress conservatively, not flashy, well groomed. Go up to the front desk and tell the receptionist that you would like to apply for a job. Most likely she will give you an application to fill out right there. Once you are done, ask her if she will give your resume to the personnel dept. along with your application. That pretty much would be it. If you are really lucky, they may want to give you an interview right then, but most likely they'll just take your application and tell you someone will contact you. Good luck!
