What does a position as an Administrative Assistant/Receptionist do?
Asked by mysteriouswun
Does this mean that it's someone who sits at the front desk, but does a little bit more than just greet guests and answer phones? Wouldn't it be overwhelming since it's like serving two jobs? Would it be better to just work as an admin assist or just a receptionist rather than being an admin/recep?

You would do things like order office supplies and file paper work as well as answer phones. I don't think it would be overwhelming, it just allows you to put more responsibilities on your resume. Having more responsibilities make your work days fly, sitting at a desk all day greeting visitors is very mundane and gets very boring very quickly.
If it were going to be too much work, the company would split the job up between more than just one person.

It really depends. If you're not able to handle both, I would look for a job that is one or the other. If you're an admin/receptionist, you may be responsible for some or all of the following duties:
** Answer the switchboard, and transfer and answer calls in a timely fashion, and direct to appropriate personnel if you're unsure of the answer.
** Greet visitors/customers/ and other people to the company
** Answers questions/comments/and concerns in a timely manner
** Knows how to deal with the unexpected.
** Utilizes Microsoft Office to produce a number of documents such as letters, presentations, calenders, brochures, promotional materials, training materials etc.
** Accounting duties such as cash, preparing deposits
** Scheduling of necessary tasks such as meetings, and other tasks
** Orders office supplies, food supplies, and other supplies as needed.
** Schedules meetings, and prepares necessary agendas
** Books travel and hotel arrangements, and conferences
** Maintains budget information for necessary programs
** Photocopies, collates, and sorts various documents
** Filing of various documents, and disseminating appropriate files
** Trains new clerical support workers
** Supervises a couple of junior workers.

i've been working in their field for 6 or 7 years - at first it is overwhelming (when you do not have experience) - after awhile its all just second nature to you.
Do whatever makes you comfortable
