How would I get a receptionist job?
Asked by Jessyca Dawnn
I'm 20 years old and I'm extremely interested in getting a receptionist job. I'm great at typing and have excellent communication skills. I've worked phones before, but other than that I have zero experience in the field. I know that I'm qualified, but when employers see my resume they don't even give me a chance. Any suggestions?

Keep trying. There are a lot of people looking for jobs right now so the competition is high. Make sure your resume is in top shape and just keep plugging. Try the smaller, independent offices also. I just got a job at a property services company as a receptionist and I have little experience. The pay is low but they were willing to take a chance on me. The same as I was willing to work for lower wages to get the experience.

Hello, You must write your resume, in a way that it will be appealing to them and they will invite you for a job interview. For example to emphasize How good your communication skills are, and that you are very skill and fast at typing.

Work towards a job as a clerk or assistant at a place you would like to be a receptionist at.

Without a lot of sufficient exprience, I doubt whether they would hire you as a receptionist. You would have to start at the bottom and work your way up. There are jobs like office assisting, office clerking, file clerk, mail clerk, or something like that. When you grow with the company, they will see the skills that you have, and then they would be able to offer you a more front office job.

Try looking at Craigslist, Monster, and Careerbuilder for entry-level positions.

Try going to a temp. agency. They will give you a typing test so you can prove to them your typing skills are adequate & a few other office/clerical tests to see were you stand. They will also interview you right away & there is your chance to show your personality & communication skills. Good luck:)

Entry Level positions. Temp Agencies Career Job site boards. Create a resume. (regardless of exp. or not. Mail the resume with cover letter OR Electronic version of there website. Answer the following question if you could please? Do you know how to answer a phone? If yes. Can you do it with a personal manner? FOR EXAMPLE: Hello, this is the Wilkshire Company. How may I direct your call? The phone system is easy. PBX style, Computer style, etc. Filing, Word documents, Email, spreadsheets, sitting around, Greeting Customers, Name tags, sign in sheets, etc. Rather easy stuf. Later.
