Should I go work for a customer service center or as a corrections officer?
Asked by Barracuda
The pay for the customer service job is 11 an hour, the pay for the corrections officer job is 31,000 in Wyoming. I heard the cost of living is kind of high there. What's better?

My husband is a corrections officer. He started out at 13 an hour 4 years ago and just now makes almost $30. He works for a government branch, so they have contractual raises. This should be the max rate, at least for awhile. He also gets FANTASTIC benefits, so that is something to take into consideration. No one I know has benefits like him, which he deserves for what he has to do all day.
Corrections is TOUGH. You need a thick skin and a LOT of patience. It is not a job for everyone. The shifts can be hard on your family life. There may be lots of overtime. However, you can be proud of what you do. There may also be room for promotions/advancement.
If you think that corrections is for you, give it a try. Unless this customer service job is at a nice place with potential. That is something to consider. You don't want to turn down something that can lead to a better job down the road.
Good luck in whatever you choose!!!!!!!

Knowing your parameters is winning half the answer. The other half would be knowing your calling. Both Customer Service and Corrections Officer require both patience and passion. I am not an American so I could not relate to you about the cost of living. However, I am in the business of executive search in Singapore covering global markets across borders. Most of my successful senior level candidates follow their passion and the rest would come in place at its own time and place.
I hope it helps.

The pay for the corrections job is somewhere around 15 an hour.
Do either of them offer any perks, like a health plan, 401k, career advancement opportunities? How far is Wyoming from your friends and family? Can you afford to move to Wyoming? Do you have any interest in a career as in the corrections field or in customer service? You are the only one who can answer those questions!

i know many corrections officer's .it's very easy work, where else in the world can you be a new employee and be the supervisor {boss} of thousands of people? not just at your prison i mean any prisoner in the state. most of corrections officers job is to get up a few times an hour to make sure the prisoners are still there, find a minim security prison if you can, try to stay away from confinement settings those guys are bed news.most corrections jobs have state retirement packages that you cant beat, anyway look at it this way with the economy the way it you can loose your job as a customer service rep quick if no one buys stuff, but the prisons will be the last thing to close, no prison, no police cause there will be nowhere to put criminals, no police, no law and if that happens ,well you get the picture
