Are there any LPN's or RN's that can tell me the ups and downs of being a home care nurse?

I've done home care once when I entered LPN school. Fortunately, I just had one patient to take care of and we had a special bond. The definite up is getting to know your patient; being their friend. Also, since it was home care, I would study as she watched her shows. It's just a very relaxed enviroment. The down side, would be that you're just "trapped". Not much excitement, and when they pass on it's truly an emotional hit and then you must look for more work (I didn't go through an agency).
I'm an LPN (currently obtaining my RN) and since I graduated LPN school I only worked in the hospital setting and I love it. Most rehab floors (especially for neuro) will hire LPN's. I floated to a peds and psych unit. I've worked med/surg floors (though, most med/surg floors contain most of the catty nurses - sorry, it's true from my experience).
If you're fast paced, love hard work, seeing new things, and meeting new people then the hospital setting is for you...plus, seeing the hot new doctors isn't so bad (hey, I'm a 23 year old woman give me a break ;) ).
If you like a quiet, relaxed environment and have only one patient maybe the home health setting is more tailored for you. Some like a sedentary job where they can unwind from their home life.
That's what is so perfect about the Nursing profession. There are so many different paths you can take. If you don't like one direction, go back, and take a different route. ;)

one bad thing about home care is traveling, yes you get reimbursed for mileage but it doesn't compare to how many miles you put on your car, and with rising gas costs, plus maintence on your car
