I am a career electrician. 27 years. After I tired of working new construction for a large contractor. I went into service work for them. For the next seven years I did short order remodels and service work in the commercial sector. I made many contacts and developed many accounts. After so long all my customers were calling me directly. I was providing about ninety percent of my own work. I quit the company, and started my own electrical contracting business. My accounts followed me. Things grew and now I have five guys working for me and life is good. Lots of money, a flexible schedule and great guys working for me. This is one option. Schools and municipalities also love real electricians although their pay scales aren't always the greatest. Hope this helps. I'm no genius just a hardworking honest guy.
