How much money can I make as an truck driver owner-operator?
Asked by xyz999_1999
I am thinking about a career change. I have heard widely varying numbers as to the money that can be made as a truck driver, if you are an owner-operator. Can anyone give me a real idea?
Thanks

Being an owner-operator is not as lucrative these days as it was years ago. The rising cost of fuel and repairs takes a big bite. Besides, the truck needs to be running 24/7 to turn a profit. If you break down, you are not earnig a dime and you are spending money. Try running as a company driver first before you even think about buying your own truck. There are even many truck companies that won't sell to new drivers as it is a risky venture.

The best data comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. I have included a link below for your review. Good luck...
